Prayer as the Foundation
Reading: Acts 1:12-14
Then they returned to Jerusalem from the Mount of Olives, which is near Jerusalem — a Sabbath day’s journey away. When they arrived, they went to the room upstairs where they were staying: Peter, John, James, Andrew, Philip, Thomas, Bartholomew, Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, Simon the Zealot, and Judas the son of James. They all were continually united in prayer, along with the women, including Mary the mother of Jesus, and his brothers.
Devotional:
The disciples had just watched Jesus ascend into heaven. Everything they had known and depended on had changed in an instant. Yet their first response was not panic, strategy, or debate. It was prayer. They gathered with one accord and devoted themselves to seeking God. This is the model for every believer and every church. Before the plan, before the program, before the meeting, there must be prayer. When life shifts beneath your feet, resist the urge to immediately problem-solve. Instead, gather before God in expectation. He honors the hearts of those who wait on Him.
Reflection:
What is your first response when circumstances change unexpectedly? Is prayer truly your foundation, or is it your last resort?
Practical Application:
Set aside fifteen minutes today to sit quietly before God with no agenda. Do not bring a list of requests. Simply acknowledge His presence and tell Him you are waiting on Him.
