Created for Communion: Day 4

5-Day Bible Reading Plan and Devotional Guide
Created for Communion: Walking with God in Prayer and Presence
Day 4: Presence Over Purpose Reading: Psalm 27:4; Luke 10:38-42

Devotional:
Martha was not wrong to serve. Service is noble, and the work of the kingdom matters. But Jesus gently corrected her because she had allowed the activity of devotion to replace the object of it. Mary chose the better thing -- to sit at the feet of Jesus, to be present with Him, to listen. God is not uninterested in what you do for Him. But He is far more interested in who you are becoming with Him. When you prioritize His presence, the purposes He has for you flow naturally from that place. When you reverse the order, the work becomes exhausting and the soul becomes empty. Presence is not a reward for faithful service. It is the foundation of it.

Reflection:
Are you more like Martha or Mary in your current season of faith? What would it look like practically for you to choose the better thing this week, even amid legitimate responsibilities?

Practical Application:
Identify one activity in your schedule this week that you can set aside to create intentional space for God's presence. Guard that time as you would any other important appointment. Come to it with expectation, not obligation.
