Prayer and Fasting Week One
Sunday we began our Prayer and Fasting Series. We defined Fasting as an intentional choice to break away from our daily routine and wait upon the Lord with greater intensity, seeking His face and His presence in a deeper way.
5 Purposes of Fasting:
-To seek greater intimacy with the Lord
-To exhibit devotion or adoration to God
-To receive direction from the Lord
-To prepare for spiritual warfare
-To call on the Lord for revival and soul winning opportunities
Sunday we looked at the story of Elijah, where after defeating the prophets of Baal he is threatened by Jezebel and sinks into a deep depression.
“When Ahab got home, he told Jezebel everything Elijah had done, including the way he had killed all the prophets of Baal. 2 So Jezebel sent this message to Elijah: “May the gods strike me and even kill me if by this time tomorrow I have not killed you just as you killed them.”3 Elijah was afraid and fled for his life. He went to Beersheba, a town in Judah,” 1 Kings 19: 1-3 NLT
This week we will be praying and fasting for the Lord to release mental and emotional stronghold in our lives and the lives of those near to us. Join us tomorrow in fasting and praying for this! We will gather corporately tomorrow night at 6:30pm in the Sanctuary for a time of Worship and guided Prayer!
